Does anyone remember Zelda Heroic Rage? I went back and watched most of them recently and there were so many cool comments and fans out there. I can't believe it's been 12 years since posting the last episode. The overall art quality of the Heroic Rage series was not great, but there were some great moments and some innovative combat scenes that I enjoyed seeing again. It's interesting to look back on my series then see that Nintendo has since made "Hyrule Warriors" where Link and various characters fight hordes of enemies, a bit like my Heroic Rage take on the IP. Not that I inspired Hyrule Warriors, of course.

I joined Newgrounds in 2002. Before that, I was a fan of the Zelda games, I loved them all up the that point, and Ocarina of Time in the late 90's had been mind-blowing for that era. Majora's Mask was just okay I had thought. When 'the Windwaker' was revealed at E3 2002, I was downtrodden. I wanted Zelda to be more like what would eventually meet my vision more: Ninja Gaiden on xbox (2004), Dark Souls on PS3, and Skyrim. I had some experience making comics and flip-books growing up, and also some experience animating on a computer in high school. In that 2002 era, I chose to make a more violent, gritty animated version of The Legend of Zelda. My vision resonated with people and the Heroic Rage series did pretty well considering the art and animation wasn't professional tier by any means.

Back when I walked away from creating movies in 2008 or so, I felt like I wasn't progressing enough in quality of artwork. Heroic Rage Episode 9 had taken a lot of time and effort, and it didn't even take 1st place for the day it was released. I decided I needed to focus my time on making money and providing for my family. I have made a few more Flash movies and games over the years and mostly kept those offline. Each year (mostly) I make my family a Christmas Defenders game or movie. I just watched "Tarboy" the #1 movie here all-time. It was okay, definitely great quality art and voice acting. I wouldn't write home about it though. Can anyone recommend anything more bad-ass that is a top-tier movie here in the past 12 years?

I am looking at MAYBE making a comeback. What program is the best these days for animators? Flash seems to be more and more becoming obsolete. Are Newgrounds artists using Patreon and getting some decent donations these days? Thanks for any helpful answers.

Hey, just writing on the progress of Zelda Heroic Rage 9, the series finale (12-9-07).

I am approaching final stages of animation now (it's like 85%), and have yet to combine 2 flash movies into one, and I hope that goes smoothly. I just realized I haven't even released a flash movie this year, it's pathetic. This movie has been in production for well over a year and I have had many, many setbacks. I hope my fans think it's worth the wait. My style is not so tween heavy and "anime stylistic" as most of the work that gets 4.25 scores and what not, mine only get to 4.08 or so. This new movie should attain a massive rating, or I will surely take another extended hiatus from working for free flash movies. It's for the fans, and it's a ton of work. To the priviledged few who read this, there may be another Heroic Rage after ep. 9... If 9 dominates the NG box office. Ep. 10 would actually be a prequel of sorts. Ep. 9 ends the series though, that's it, so that's why it has to be so awesome and take awhile to produce.

If I had a team of animators and voice actors, I would be a force to be reckoned with, I know now that after Ep. 9... I can really do this.

Peace! Have a good Christmas Season! I will try to get my movie done before it's 2008!

Zelda Heroic Rage 9 Update

Posted by SolidSacketh - September 15th, 2007

What's up this is Scott, creator of the Loz: Heroic Rage series. It's been a long, long time since I released episode 8 and I wanted to tell the fans that I am working on part 9 and trying to get it done as soon as I can for you all. Sorry for taking so long. But it has to own all Zelda animations, including my own work. I have read most of the hundreds/thousands of reviews and am trying to increase the art quality. This is tough as I am not the best artist in flash, and do not claim to be.
The Zelda Heroic Rage series has grown enormously, and I have really felt the pressure to up the level of work to keep up with fan expectations. I am towards the end of the production and it's so epic that it really should be 2 movies, not one. My computer is running slow and it's a pain in the ass at this stage. Early on, the movie was damn near fubar, thanks to some corrupt image, I couldn't even open the file so I left it sit for like months. I finally picked up an old version of the file one day, imported some scenes, and got it rolling again. I am looking to have this movie done in October... I will probably put a rush on it if I get a lot of responses to this. I wonder now if anyone really even remembers the series! I am going back to work, so later!
